Completing The Kids Passport Process Quickly

It is a legal requirement that any person, adult or child, wishing to leave or return to the United States of America have their own official passport. Even very small children need to have their own documents. A kids or Children passport can be obtained easily providing you have the necessary identification.

Age Requirements

A Minors passport can be issued to any American citizen who is less than sixteen years old. An official form should be completed for them and they will require parental consent. There are several different ways that consent can be given, depending on the family circumstances.

Parents Must Be Present

The easiest way for parental consent to be given is for both the parents and the child to be present at the meeting in order to sign the documents. So, that the U.S. passport services process can be completed quick and urgent. If it is not possible for both parents to attend, the parent not attending should provide a notarized Statement of Consent. In the event that the child only has one legal parent, they will need to show proof of this. This could be a death certificate for the other parent or court order if there is a custody arrangement between the parents. There is a separate form for expedited damaged US passport renewal.

If the child is being cared for by people other than their parents when they make application, a notarized statement or affidavit will need to be presented from both parents or the parent who has sole custody. If there is a custody arrangement, documentation will be needed to prove this. Any documents presented as proof will have to be less than three months old.

US Citizenship

Along with the form and the correct signatures, you will need to ensure you have the necessary types of identification. The simplest option is to take one of the forms listed as primary identification. These include a previous undamaged passport or a authorized birth certificate.

Alternatives

If the child is traveling to a country that has a border with the US, for example Canada, the process is much simpler as a passport is not always required. Whether traveling alone or with a group, they can use their birth certificate or one of the other primary identifications to move between countries.
